RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
FIT Biotech's most important R&D activity since the start of its operations has been the development of an HIV vaccine. This project has been supported by several grants from the European Commission as well as by extensive international scientific collaboration. As the main idea in HIV vaccine development has been to use genetic immunization in order to obtain a strong cell mediated immune response against the HI virus, special emphasis has been put on the development of DNA plasmids suitable to be used in the vaccination. During this process, a highly effective DNA plasmid, GTU (Gene Transport Unit) was developed and protected.

The fact that GTU technology platform can be used in a variety of applications in vaccine and gene therapy fields means that FIT Biotech has several interesting products in its pipeline. The company is currently developing vaccines against Melanoma, Diabetes and Hepatitis C, for example. All of these projects are based on the use of GTU technology.
